Smile Design

Smile Design is the process of analysing tooth colour, shape, length and position with digital tools and planning an aesthetically ideal smile that is in harmony with the patient's facial features. At Emrivadent, the final result is visualised before treatment begins using the Digital Smile Design (DSD) protocol.

What Is Smile Design?

Smile Design is a multidisciplinary treatment approach that combines multiple cosmetic dentistry applications (veneers, crowns, orthodontics, whitening, gum contouring) into a single comprehensive plan. The patient's lip line, tooth axis and facial proportions are analysed digitally.

Smile Design Steps

  1. Photo and video analysis: Standard facial and intraoral photographs are taken.
  2. DSD simulation: The new smile is designed on software and presented to the patient for approval.
  3. Mock-up (intraoral simulation): The design is trialled in the mouth with temporary composite.
  4. Treatment plan: Veneers, crowns, orthodontics or gum surgery are determined.
  5. Application: Treatments are carried out according to the plan.
  6. Final: The result is reviewed and a long-term care plan is established.

Cases involving only veneers or whitening can be completed in 5–7 days. A comprehensive smile design including orthodontics or implants can take 6–18 months. Intensive programmes are planned for dental tourism patients.
Yes. With Digital Smile Design (DSD) software you can see a simulated smile on your photographs. In addition, an intraoral mock-up (temporary composite trial) can be applied to test the actual result.
Both. Smile design aims to improve both aesthetics and functional occlusion. Incorrect bite and worn teeth cause both visual and chewing problems; all of these are treated within a single plan.
For fixed restorations (veneers, crowns), tooth and jaw development must be complete; this is generally at age 18. For younger patients, orthodontics or whitening can be applied.
It varies by the material used. Porcelain veneers last 10–15 years and zirconia crowns 15–20 years. Orthodontic results are made permanent with retainer use. General oral care and regular check-ups increase longevity.
